Workshop FAQs
Absolutely. You do not need any prior experience with vitrigraph, glass fusing or glass blowing. The studio is optimized for absolute safety, and the hands-on instruction is tailored entirely to your personal comfort level and creative pace.
Normally when you create your fused glass art, you are using glass that Bullseye has made for you. Now suddenly you have the opportunity to actually create your own glass, which you can't buy in a store. The organic nature of each piece is a unique invitation to a new level of creativity.
Once you enroll in a workshop you will have access to the private membership site, with a wealth of material to help you. One such resource is a dedicated Inspiration Gallery, where I highlight finished pieces from my portfolio as well as pieces created by featured glass artists. With each piece we discuss the process of working with vitrigraph in a way that will help you discover this new art form for yourself, which will act as a source of inspiration for you.
You will take home an incredibly generous supply! Our standard Private Workshop utilizes a 4-inch pot setup, which typically yields roughly 2 pounds of gorgeous, custom-pulled vitrigraph components. To give you a real visual sense of scale, this fills an entire 14-inch pizza delivery box flat to the brim with unique strands, twists, and stringers.
A typical yield from our 4-inch pot, prepped and boxed for travel home.
If you choose a Semi-Private Workshop (or upgrade your Private Session to our high-yield deep pot setup), you will be pulling from a larger 5-inch pot, which increases your output significantly and yields even more finished design elements for your art projects!
Because the studio kiln is custom-prepped and heated specifically for your designated day, we ask for at least 48 hours' notice to reschedule your session at no cost. Sorry, but cancellations made within 48 hours of the class are non-refundable.
No problem at all! We can easily adjust your session. If your partner can no longer make it, you have two wonderful options for how you'd like to spend your studio time:
- Option 1: Keep the High-Yield Deep Pot (Most Popular). You can choose to stick with the larger pot size prepared for your session. You'll get an extended, premium one-on-one masterclass and take home the entire large allotment of glass yourself. This essentially converts your booking into a standard Private Workshop ($155) plus the Deep Pot Upgrade ($25) for a total value of $180. We will automatically refund you the $60 difference from your original $240 payment.
- Option 2: Downgrade to the Standard Private Workshop. If you haven't yet picked up your studio materials and we haven’t prepared your deep pot for the kiln, we can downsize your setup to our standard private workshop pot ($155). Your session will convert to a standard one-on-one class, and we will refund you the full $85 price difference.
Just send us a quick note as soon as you know your plans have changed.
Safety first! Please wear comfortable closed-toe shoes (leather or canvas shoes or boots) and natural fiber clothing (like cotton jeans and a long sleeved cotton t-shirt). You absolutely MUST AVOID synthetic fabrics. All professional safety glasses, shields, and heat-resistant gear are provided for you.
Strict Safety Policy: If you arrive with inadequate clothing, you will not be able to pull your glass and you will still be charged for your session time. This is an absolute requirement and a non-negotiable part of the class for your own protection.
One of the highlights of my class is learning how to pull glass using hemostats, mashers, pliers and other specialized tools designed just for the vitrigraph.
You will also get to use my proprietary custom 3D printed template molds, designed especially for achieving my unique clean color-separated pulls. There is no need to bring your own tools.
All the glass that you pull will immediately go into a stainless tub lined with thick fiber blanket on the top and the bottom. It will be well over 1000 degrees in this tub; this is where the glass must safely rest and anneal so that it doesn’t fracture from thermal shock (there is always some unavoidable fracturing.)
I will have your glass carefully boxed and ready for you to pick up the next day or at your convenience. I know you’ll be excited to look at it and handle your creations, but they will stay hot for a very long time and you will need to wait a day to receive it.
The hands-on portion of the masterclass takes place at my private studio in Mission Canyon, Santa Barbara. It is an inspiring, fully equipped workspace designed for optimal safety and creativity. The exact studio address and detailed parking instructions will be sent to you directly as soon as your registration is complete.
Yes, you'll be using all your own glass. We work exclusively with Bullseye COE 90 glass, so please don't mix in any COE 96, stained glass or any other kind of glass. The glass you use doesn't have to be big fancy whole sheets - it can be small pieces of scrap from other projects you've done. That's part of the beauty of Vitrigraph - it gives us a chance to use all those small pieces.
Absolutely! I know what you mean - I find it that exciting too! When you book your time, there is a checkbox for making your time-slot recurring – or you can book different time slots at once and then check out for them all together.
And there is the frequent-puller discount too. Every 5 workshops gives you a 6th workshop free.
